A place where we can find the best tutors for our needs and where we can take control of our own learning.

Studym8 was an idea that came about when two of our founders found studying to be a hassle and didn’t want to complicate it more by getting a tutor. Tutors are great, but what happens when students are not able to retain the information taught by the tutor? It just becomes a time-consuming chore with little to no benefit. They pursued finding a solution to their problem but nothing was able to suit their learning needs. They just wished that there was a way to study more efficiently.

So, they thought to themselves what if we could have an interactive online learning platform that allows us to make our studying more efficient and effective. A place where we can find the best tutors for our needs and where we can take control of our own learning. Over the next year, they worked to make their dreams come true. And finally, Studym8 was born, an online learning platform that connects the right tutors to students with many resources to make the most of both teaching and studying.

How was the idea born

Education can be thought of as the transmission of the values and accumulated knowledge of a society. In this sense, it is equivalent to what social scientists term socialization or enculturation. Children—whether conceived among New Guinea tribespeople, the Renaissance Florentines, or the middle classes of Manhattan—are born without culture.

As society becomes ever more complex and schools become ever more institutionalized, educational experience becomes less directly related to daily life, less a matter of showing and learning in the context of the workaday world, and more abstracted from practice, more a matter of distilling, telling, and learning things out of context. This concentration of learning in a formal atmosphere allows children to learn far more of their culture than they are able to do by merely observing and imitating.
